Mental health issues do NOT begin in the brain

Acupuncture has shown in clinical studies to be beneficial and supportive for managing stress, anxiety, depression, and hormone related mood swings.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a very unique interpretation of mental health disorders: they arise from organ imbalances of the heart, lungs, liver, gall bladder, stomach, spleen, large intestine, or kidneys.

In the view of TCM, mental health issues aren’t a dysfunction of the brain.

Whether it’s anxiety, depression, OCD, bipolar disorder, ADHD, or any other diagnosis, there is an inherent imbalance of at least one of the organ and channel systems.

We know that our DNA can carry the information of trauma from one generation to the next.

The study of epigenetics has shown that the encoding of DNA doesn’t necessarily determine the gene’s expression, but rather the environment in which our genetic material exists.

Our DNA floats in a sort of cellular soup. What we eat, how much we exercise, how we process emotions, and many other behaviors and choices determines what is in the soup, which determines which genes get switched on and off.

TCM understood this long before the study of genetics or epigenetics. The wisdom of Chinese medicine offers a roadmap for how to have vitality in the body and mind.

I have found acupuncture is a fantastic compliment to talk therapy, CBT, plant medicine, supplement, herbs and lifestyle changes when it comes to improving mental and emotional health.

We recommend a 12-week course of acupuncture along with some simple lifestyle and nutritional changes to support the process. Reach out to us if you are interested to learn more.
